MB vs Hate Takes Action for United Against Hate Week
Among the many cities across California who joined us for the third annual United Against Hate Week, was the City of Manhattan Beach. In response to various antisemitic hate crimes and incidents that have occurred in the city within the past year, Manhattan Beach along with Councilmember Hildy Stern, took steps towards denouncing hate in the community. They formed the South Bay Community Coalition Against Hate, implementing a Resolution Condemning Antisemitism and a Resolution Recognizing United Against Hate Week. Additionally, the coalition along with city officials, religious leaders, Manhattan Beach Unified School District, local law enforcement, local non-profits, state assembly members, board of supervisors, LA vs Hate and more meet once a month to engage community leaders on initiatives that address hate and promote inclusivity and safety for all residents.
The South Bay Community Coalition Against Hate took initiative and organized city wide events that invited residents to come together and take a stand against hate. Among the activities taking place during the week was the Kick Off CommUNITY Event at Polliwog Park which featured the unveiling of a rainbow pathway painted by the young people of the community, speakers from the community, sidewalk chalk art, art projects, a distribution of MB vs. Hate lawn signs and more.
MB vs Hate also organized a free screening of the documentary film “RACE to be Human” which focuses on how to foster healthy conversations about race and racism, and a community Moment of Silence where community members of all ages were encouraged to pause, focus their breath, and quietly think about how they could positively support others.
MB vs Hate lawn signs and window signs were also available for pick up throughout the week at schools and city facilities. businesses were encouraged to proudly display a sign in their home and business windows to stand united against hate.
Thank you to the City of Manhattan Beach, Councilmember Hildy Stern, and the South Bay Community Coalition Against Hate for joining our movement and setting an example of how Los Angeles cities can create communities that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming for all its residents.
