LA vs Hate will be popping up at Grand Performances for a celebration of the cumbia diaspora featuring Chucho Ponce Los Daddy’s, Yeison Landero, Turbo Sonidero, and DJ Chihuahua. Born in Brooklyn, New York, and based in his father’s hometown of Chinantla, Puebla, Chucho Ponce Los Daddy’s innovates the cumbia poblano sound infusing it with a hip-hop beatmaker sensibility. Chucho Ponce Los Daddy’s performs extensively throughout the US and Mexico bringing the diasporic sounds of “Puebla York” to the world. Although originally from Colombia, cumbia in Puebla draws heavily from the indigenous-inspired Andean cumbia highlighting keyboards and Moog synthesizers rather than the accordions and guacharaca popular in Mexico City’s brand of cumbia. In dialogue with migrant experience, Los Daddys pushes this style into the future.
This is a free, outdoors family event.
